Just a few highlights ...
Tsunami Relief, 2004
Walnut Trails students sponsored a fund raiser to aid victims of the Thailand tsunami. Students raised over $1,000.
Construction of playground equipment, 2007
Through the efforts of the PTO and Walnut Trails families, the playground equipment was erected in one day!
Trailers to house some of students, 2008-2009
Because of our over-capacity enrollment, several fifth grade classes were moved to trailers during the 2008-2009 school year. During this very crowded year, art classes were held on the stage, music classes were in the classrooms, and there were three PE teachers in the gym at one time! Our enrollment for 2008-2009 was 964 students.
Illinois Academic Achievement Award, 2011
Walnut Trails won the Illinois Academic Achievement Award in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The award is based on showing
high achievement three years in a row.
Hurricane Sandy Relief, 2012
Over $800 was raised thanks to a combined effort by our students and the PTO. This was sent to an elementary school in New Jersey that was affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Coal City/Diamond Tornado Relief Book Drive, 2013
When tornadoes touched down in nearby Diamond and Coal City, our staff and students held a book drive to help area schools replace materials that had been destroyed in the storms. In addition, donations were made to a tornado relief fund.
Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, 2014
Walnut Trails students logged 121,445 reading minutes. We placed sixth out of all the participating Illinois schools, and are in the top 5% world-wide!
